Located on the west coast of the Isle of Skye, this is a low impact, compact, architect-designed studio that sits comfortably and quietly in the striking landscape that surrounds it. We love its simple elegance, and the proximity to extraordinary natural beauty. If you’re looking for a really unique cabin rental in Scotland, this is a great choice.
Island Studio Isle of Skye, Scotlanddesigned by Rural Design Architects
This small cabin rental in Scotland is appealing in so many ways. For one, it looks great. Designed by Rural Design Architects, it has a great minmalist, tiny-home feel. Then there’s its location – on the Isle of Skye, as remote as you could ask for, and surrounded in extraordinary natural beauty. It’s a great place to run away to.
But bear in mind, this space is only really suitable for a couple or close friends – although the owners will occasionally allow one small child too. The cabin is on one level, with a living/dining area at one end, and a bedroom at the other – with kitchen and bathroom in between.
The space may be small but it has been carefully constructed to maximize both practicality and aesthetic appeal. The inside finishes were selected to create a calming, restful and natural atmosphere, with fittings that are simple but of very high quality. Materials are sustainable and locally-sourced, where possible.
This is the sister property of another cabin in the same location.
The cabin is fully insulated and has a wood-burning stove that keeps it cosy in any weather. There is wifi and a bluetooth speaker. The bathroom has a Swedish waterless toilet, washbasin and walk-in shower.
The studio is located on the Minginish Peninsula of the Isle of Skye, nestled into a dip in front of Loch Bracadale, with views of the sea loch and the surrounding hills. Guests can walk directly out into the landscape from it, and it has close access to the island’s rocky mountains or Cuillins, which offer challenging walks and climbs.
The owners are happy to offer advice on the best routes and lesser-known places to go. These include lovely walks out to Fiscavaig bay and other secluded beaches. The area is full of wildlife, including nesting golden and sea eagles, as well as otters.
Carbost, Isle of Sky, Scotland, UK. Nearest airports: Glasgow International Airport. The nearest local airport is Inverness. The island is reached by ferry (Glenelg to Kylerheais a very scenic route) or by road bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh (mainland) to Kyleakin (Skye). A rental car is recommended. Please make sure that the GPS route you choose takes the crossing route into consideration.
